What I {Am Into} Today

Good thing: Baby drinking out of a big girl cup

Better thing: Baby yelling at me to get her a paper towel so she could wipe up the milk she spilled.

Having snack outside is loverly. So is my new nail polish.  I bought it last night and couldn't figure out why this wacky color was appealing to me so much...

Then I remembered it's the same color as my least favorite book. I guess it was my subconscious inspiration.  Perhaps my nails will now inspire me to crack the book open? Ha! Only time will tell...

Art wise I'm exploring taking an image and creating repetitive patterns.  Here's a plate I did for work

Eat More Veggies

I think my both my nieces need one

The back

I chopped off my hair.  11 inches to be exact. It took a bit to get used to but I'm in the groove now.  I've gotten so used to it that somehow I forget that I did it.  Then I run into people that haven't seen me since I cut it and they give me crazy stares and then I'm like, why are they staring at me? And then I remember. Duh. I swear I'm a smart girl.

Already need a bang trim

I really like these bags.  But how does one pick a color??

Also, I've never really worn a backpack but if I did it would be one of these. But again I am stuck with the question, what color??

Post Script: Sorry for the crappy photos.  I'm kind of in the process of purchasing a camera for myself so hopefully no more shitty cell phone shots.

What I {Threw Together} Today

Here's a list of um random.

I made a birthday card.

Yes, that's a Snuggie.

No, I have no idea how to draw a soccer ball.

I sewed Mia's costume with help from this and this.

I have more to show you about this later.  We're going to wine country again this year so I'll have plenty of pics to share.

I want to read this book.

But I still have all these books to start.

I carved my pumpkin.

Not as classy as last year but equally fun. (holy crap look how small Mia is!)

Michelle found something called a ghost pumpkin the innards are melon colored. Tres cool.

I have an art crush on Helmut Smits.

I want to try to bake my own bread, any recipes or tips?

I really love cutting things with my new pinking shears.

One time Michelle and I cleaned the entire kitchen floor with wet wipes.

I'm going to make some friendship bracelet and/or necklace type things.  If your lucky I might make you one too...maybe.

I'm seriously craving a vanilla latte.

And some new boots.

And scarf wearin time.

Oooh and I want a pom pom maker!

Seriously, where's my latte?

What I {Watched Mia Play With} Today

Mia's new favorite toy is a set of flashcards.
She couldn't care less about what is printed on the cards.
She loves sorting them.

She carefully selects an individual card and carries it over to its new resting place.

If you watch her in action you see that she if very meticulous about where they go.

Nothing is random.

The storage ottoman has now been taken over by Mia's toys.
It used to store the DVDs. But now they are sequestered here...

I think this means M & J have become "those people" that let kid stuff take over their house.
I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin...

Another step is handing each card to me, taking it back, and then placing it in its assigned area.

It's a lengthy process.

Once all the cards are sorted she may decide to sort some of her dolls.

First she lines them up on the couch.

Yes, she placed the remote there on purpose.

No, I have no idea why it counts as a doll.

Then she will individually toss them to the ground.

When sorting gets old, she may do some reading on her iPad.

When the technology begins to feel inadequate, she'll kick it old school with a magazine.

Then she sees her highchair and realizes she's suddenly starving.

If only there were audio to go with this.  Just imagine a nagging whine/moan.
So she eats her snack (oatmeal muffin and grapes)

And shows off her straw sippin' skillz (with a z)

And when she does this...

It means it's nap time! Yayyy!
I mean, awww I can't wait till she wakes up again...

What I {Am Excited About} Today

Sooo...

It's official.

racheldid is going to be in a craft show!

I just received notice that I have been accepted as a vendor in Sweet Ps Arts Festival!!!

I am SO excited!

I am SO nervous!

I have SO much stuff to make!

It will be fun though.

So this weekend I have been scavenging the thrift stores of Marietta and Alpharetta to find supplies for the show.

I have to fill a 6 foot table! I have to have a display!

Luckily I found some gems...

We first raided the women's blouses

Looking for good prints to cut up

With good buttons to steal

The vases will hold baby hats

"How so?" you ask.  You'll just have to come and see.

And then we stumbled upon the most random and perfect thing ever...

and best of all

DSC_1488

There were two of them.

I plan to repaint them and replace the loops with hooks for the headbands.  I haven't worked it all out yet, but it's gonna be good.  I got a good feeling from them.

I also found this bowl type thing

DSC_1492

I have no idea how I'll use it.  But it spoke to me.  I just couldn't walk away.

DSC_1493

Yes, I realize I'm just a few steps from an episode of Hoarders.

I also hit up a local used book store and was excited to find some J.D. Salinger!

DSC_1498

R.I.P. Salinger.

I only recently discovered that Roald Dahl wrote adult fiction. Hopefully Kiss Kiss will live up to The BFG (Side Note: That is my favorite children's book of all time.  If/when I have a daughter her name will be Sophie because of that book.  If you haven't read it, you should.)

So Michelle and Jason recently purchased Kindles.  They are in LOVE with their Kindles.  I'm kinda on the fence about it.  I mean the sleekness and the convenience are huge selling points...

But I'm a sucker for a good used book.

The smell.
The yellow tinge.
The oldness.

It just does something to me.

I mean I have Larry Mason to thank for this book!

But one downside is this...

DSC_1500

I hate dog-eared pages.

hate, hate, hate

So that is an advantage of the Kindle.  No need for dog-ears.

But then again I can't imagine a Kindle replacing books for kids.

This was purchased for Mia

DSC_1501

Can you imagine these illustrations on a screen?

DSC_1502

Certainly not.

Sometimes a book should just be allowed to be a book.
